Demo Smoothing

Demo smoothing is part of the Machininma process that Source Machinima artists use to create much more professional standard Camera Work, Commonly used when the player cannot get high enough on the map, or the director wants a birds eye view, or just some really smooth camera work.

I will use this technique for almost all of my video, some of the shots that I will get of locations and establishing shots I have used myself in a simple straight walking pattern, leaving me able to have smooth camera work, and not have to worry about it being too fast or too slow.

Here are some pictures of others using the Demo smoothing tool in Source Machinima.

In this second picture, you can see both the yellow and white lines, this is the original camera work, where the person walked whilst recording the Demo, the green and purple lines are the smoothed track, this is where the camera man / director of Photography for the shoot has gone through the footage and moved the camera around so that it is
a) Smoother
b) framing the shot right
and c) not intercepting the actors or any props.
